The
Podippu is a traditional percussion instrument accessory from Kerala.
Unlike mass-produced instruments, our Podippu is a testament to slow,
intentional craftsmanship, blending high-quality natural materials with
profound Vedic symbolism.
Premium
Materials
- The Jeevakkol: The four central handles are hand-carved from seasoned Jack wood.
- Artisanal
Wool: Each of the 64 pom-poms is fashioned from high-quality,
multi-coloured wool.
Deep
Spiritual Symbolism
Every
element of the Podippu is designed with a higher meaning in mind:
- The
64 Pom-Poms: These symbolise the 64 Kalas
(the 64 traditional arts and sciences), encompassing everything from music
and dance to logic and architecture.
- The
4 Jeevakkol: The four wooden handles represent
the 4 Vedas (Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda, and Atharvaveda), the
foundational pillars of ancient knowledge.
Design
& Performance
The
design features a vibrant, multi-coloured weave that creates a stunning blur of
colour when in motion. By holding the Jeevakkol and utilising a rhythmic wrist
flick, the performer creates a sharp, cascading sound that has echoed through
temple festivals and folk gatherings for centuries.
